New on the Oak Bay take-away scene is Delicado's, one of a
small chain of Southwest wrap restaurants.
Within walking distance of our house, Patty and I were keen to give
it a try. On our first visit, it was a complete disaster. The food was
good, but they screwed up the order completely - overwhelmed by the four
customers in the store.
Our experience improved on our second visit. They had more staff, who
seemed to be better-trained than on our first visit. We were served
quickly and the correct food arrived in short order.
I had the Southwest roll-up ($7.55) and Patty had the Chicken
Tostada. My wrap, with chicken and beans, had lots of fresh components and
the chipotle sauce was discernible with an appropriate level of heat
(customizable upon ordering). The price seemed a little steep, but I did
enjoy it. Patty's tostada was big and filling - lots of toppings here
and more than you'd generally expect from a tostada.
For a filling, healthy-feeling meal Delicado's is a good option. The
location is new, clean and comfortable, although I did notice that the
exterior tables kinda stunk like cigarette butts. It's not value-dining,
but neither does it sting. I would like to see more local produce on
their menu, since they are, after all, an Island-based company.
If they can maintain their rising learning curve in the service
department, then Patty and I will definitely be back.
